Parents

Assistance from parents is essential. In order to run a full program every Friday night the assistance of approximately sixty (60) parents is required. If this help is not available than it will be necessary to cancel events. Unfortunately it will be the children who miss out.

The Goodna Centre also has a Parent Levy which is $50.00 per Family per Season. Please be advised that this levy is only refundable at the conclusion of the season if the parent assists for 6 competition nights. All parent/carers are encouraged to participate on competition nights. All tasks that need to be performed are easy to learn and guidance is provided. Competition nights will run more smoothly and finish earlier with parent/carer assistance.

Ways to Help

  • Help is required to set up before competition each week.
  • Every age must have a Age Marshall ( Duties: To Marshall the age group to their event and record their track & field results}.
  • Throws Events need parents to retrieve implements, spike, measure and assist in keeping order.
  • Jump events (i.e. Long & Triple Jump) need parents to rake pits, spike, and measure. High Jump need parents to measure, raise the bar and assist in keeping order.
  • Track needs Timekeepers, Place Judges, Starters. Check Starters.
  • Canteen needs help with serving and preparing.

Please Note : We are not a child minding service. All children MUST be in the care of an adult who is present at the ground the whole time the child is there. Each competition night is different and can vary dramatically in finishing times. It is unacceptable to expect somebody else watch over your child.

Code Of Behaviour

  • Sport has a very special place in Australian society. We are proud of our sporting tradition and look up to our sporting champions from whatever field of endeavour.
  • Winning of course is a vital part of that tradition - but not as important as the spirit in which the majority of those Australian heroes have played their sport. That spirit stems from our commitments to fair play.
  • The Little Athletics Code of Behaviour produced below is based on the Australian Sports Commission's Code for use by organization conducting sporting programmes for children.

A child's basic training in good sportsmanship comes from home.

1. If children are interested encourage them to participate. However if your child is not willing do not force him or her.

2. Focus upon your child's effort and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists your child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.

3. Teach your child that honest effort is a important as victory, so that the result of each competition is accepted without undue disappointment.

4. Remember children are involved in organised sport for their enjoyment not yours.

5. Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give of their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.
